When travelling, breakfast is a must, a favourite meal and one of the most special moments to share with your travel companions.
It is no exaggeration to say that in the cities we visit, breakfast, one of the most intimate moments of our lives, contributes to making a new place familiar and welcoming.
In the morning, immersed in the atmosphere of a place still to be discovered, there is nothing better than the special experience of having breakfast surrounded by beauty.
Here are some suggestive and unusual places – theatres, cinemas, castles – in some of the most beautiful artistic and cultural places in Emilia-Romagna, where you can have an unforgettable breakfast.
A special breakfast in Parma
Teatro Regio
The Teatro Regio, the symbol of Parma‘s musical tradition, was built at the behest of Duchess Maria Luigia, Napoleon’s wife, who was sent to govern the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla after the Congress of Vienna.
Inaugurated in May 1829 and continuously renovated according to the tastes of the time, the interior surprises visitors with its neo-Renaissance style and the ceiling painted by Giovan Battista Borghesi.
Inside, the Grand Café allows guests to have breakfast (Tuesday to Saturday, from 8.30 a.m.) amidst the elegant atmosphere of the theatre.
A special breakfast in Bologna
Cinema Modernissimo
Bologna‘s Cinema Modernissimo (formerly Cinema Arcobaleno) is a historic underground cinema hidden in the heart of the city centre, at the crossroads between Via Rizzoli and Piazza Re Enzo. Recently restored and brought back to great splendour, it offers a programme of restored classic and contemporary films, as well as meetings with artists and writers from the world of cinema.
Inside the Modernissimo, there is a cafeteria/bistro where you can have breakfast (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9.30 a.m.), surrounded by a magical aura that recalls the atmosphere of the early 20th century.
Cineteca di Bologna
The legendary Cineteca di Bologna (world famous for its film restoration laboratory) offers the Domenica Matinée: if you buy a ticket for a Sunday morning screening, breakfast is included in the price. The screenings usually start at 10.30 or 11.00 a.m. and it is sufficient to arrive half an hour before to have breakfast before entering the cinema.
A special breakfast in Rimini
Teatro Galli
The Teatro Galli in Rimini overlooks the central Piazza Cavour, just like the Old Fish Market, the PART Museum and the Pigna Fountain. It is an Italian-style theatre designed by the architect Luigi Poletti and inaugurated in 1857 by Giuseppe Verdi, who performed a new opera (Aroldo) composed especially for the occasion.
Inside, the Caffè del Grifone, with its enchanting view of the medieval square, organises gourmet breakfasts for everyone, including proposals for coeliacs and vegetarians.
Grand Hotel Rimini
The Grand Hotel in Rimini, a place dear to Federico Fellini’s heart, just a few steps from the beach and the city’s pier, opens its doors to non-hotel guests for a breakfast in the style of the Belle Epoque (every day from 7 to 11 a.m., reservation required).
A five-star breakfast, with sweet and savoury options prepared daily by the hotel’s pastry chefs, to be enjoyed in the Grand Hotel’s historic rooms or, in summer, on the terrace overlooking the garden.
A special breakfast in the Castles of the Duchy
Castles of the Duchy
The Castles of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Pontremoli offer during the spring a calendar of Breakfasts in the Castle, sumptuous events where participants can enjoy breakfast in the magical atmosphere of the halls, panoramic terraces or gardens of the castles.
The breakfast is combined with a themed visit through the rooms of the castle.
