The warm season in Emilia-Romagna is marked by numerous initiatives dedicated to greenery, such as flower, garden and rural fairs.
Here is a list, in chronological order, of the not-to-be-missed April and May events in the region.
Guastalla (RE) | Georgica
When: 20-21 April 2024
Admission: fee 5€
On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April 2024, Guastalla, in the province of Reggio Emilia, hosts an authentic spring festival along the banks of the River Po, to celebrate outdoor life, rural traditions and biodiversity.
“Georgica. Feast of the land, water and work in the fields” combines an exhibition-market of ancient and rare flower and fruit plants with a market of typical and excellent organic products, with many activities for children and families.
Colorno (PR) | In the Sign of the Lily
When: 25-26-27-28 April 2024
Admission: fee 10€
In the majestic park of the Reggia di Colorno, the ducal palace of Maria Luigia of Austria, from Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th April 2024, the historical fair and market dedicated to quality gardening Nel Segno del Giglio (In the Sign of the Lily) is back.
Every year the best Italian exhibitors of floriculture and garden furniture, as well as small artisans and local farms, meet here.
There is also a varied program of guided tours, children’s workshops, book presentations, and meetings.
Cattoloica (RN) | Cattolica in bloom
When: 27-28-29-30 April and 1 May 2024
Admission: free
From 27 April to 1 May, the town of Cattolica is transformed into an immense flower garden, full of the intense fragrances and bright colours of nature.
Five days dedicated to quality products and fun, with a program full of shows, exhibitions, cultural initiatives, competitions, and many attractions for all visitors.
Castellarano (RE) | Borgo Plantarum
When: 27-28 April 2024 and 14-15 September 2024
Admission: fee 6€
Twice a year, Telarolo di Castellarano, a village in the green hills of Reggio Emilia, hosts Borgo Plantarum, a true festival for garden lovers.
Here, on the cobblestones between the houses, in the courtyard, and on the lawn next to the 18th-century church, you will find some of the best nurserymen in Italy, selected for the excellence of their production and the uniqueness of the plants they offer.
Bobbio (PC) | Blooming castle
When: 25-26 May 2024
Admission: free
Every year, on the last weekend in May, the medieval Malaspina Dal Verme Castle, which dominates the historic village of Bobbio, hosts Castello in Fiore (Blooming Castle) an exhibition of plants, handicrafts and traditional local foods.
A festival of colours, scents, and flavours that takes place in front of the castle entrance and along the imposing walls.
