Relaxing in a thermal pool, enjoying the magic of the starry Apennine sky with snowshoes on your feet, discovering places and works of art dedicated to love… Emilia-Romagna is full of places where lovers are celebrated and where you can surprise your loved one with a day full of romance.

In Emilia-Romagna Valentine’s Day is always a new and original experience, let’s find out how!

Valentine's Day at the Spa

Relaxing in a warm pool, rich in precious waters that provide immediate well-being, entrusting yourself to the hands of experts for a natural peeling with thermal salts or a massage inspired by the four elements, indulging in relaxing hammams and mud baths.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect occasion to take refuge in one of the thermal centers of Emilia-Romagna. There is a wide range of wellness treatments for couples to choose from.

Snowshoeing at night

Spend Valentine’s Day immersed in nature at night: this is what the Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi Monte Falterona e Campigna proposes on 14 February, starting at 4.30 p.m., where you can spend two and a half hours walking along a 5.5 km route at dusk, in complete safety, accompanied by an Environmental Hiking Guide.

The warm colours of the twilight and the forest lit only by torches create the unique atmosphere of this romantic snowshoe walk, following the tracks left in the snow by the wild animals that populate the forests of Emilia-Romagna in winter.

The route will be determined by the guide at the start of the excursion, according to snow and weather conditions. On request, Romagnatrekking® can provide snowshoes on the spot.

In front of a work of art

Saying ‘I love you’ in front of a painting or sculpture that celebrates this great feeling is certainly an original way to celebrate 14 February.

  • Francesco Scaramuzza,
  • Gaetano Previati,

There are many romantic works on display in the museums of Emilia-Romagna.
Such as the painting Amore e Psiche (Cupid and Psyche) by artist Francesco Scaramuzza, painted in 1833 and housed at the Pilotta Palace in Parma, which depicts one of the most interpreted myths of the Romantic period, the mythical embrace of two lovers.

As well as the canvas depicting “Venus and Cupid” by the artist Annibale Carracci, painted in 1592 and exhibited at the Galleria Estense in Modena, in which the Goddess, immersed in a romantic atmosphere, looks at Amor as if inviting him to bless the viewer’s love.

Paolo and Francesca“, on the other hand, are the intertwined figures in the painting by Gaetano Previati exhibited at the Galleria d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Ferrara, in which the dramatic tension of the unfortunate protagonists of Dante’s Inferno (Canto V) is captured.

Finally, the vision of the ceramic “Amore e Psiche” (Cupid and Psyche) in the Museo delle Ceramiche in Faenza, where the two (almost) life-size deities shine in hard ‘bianchita’ porcelain, can only be a declaration of love.

In the places of love

They can be defined as the most romantic places in the region, if only because of their name, and they are a must for a romantic getaway.

The Island of Love is a strip of land that has emerged from the enchanting landscapes of the Po Delta in the province of Ferrara and is now a refuge for numerous species of birds.

On its outermost part, an isolated strip of sand called Scanno del Faro, the picturesque Goro Lighthouse stands, immersed in silence and poetry between land, water & sky.

Walking through the beautiful hills of the Emilian Apennines, you will come across an ancient place that preserves the myth of love in its name: the Pieve di San Valentino.

It is one of the oldest parish churches in the diocese of Reggio Emilia and one of the most beautiful in the region, with a Romanesque layout dating back to the 7th century.

You can choose to seal your love in front of the façade decorated with spires and rose windows, or enter to declare your love in front of the high altar, adorned by the precious altarpiece by Benvenuto Tisi, known as Il Garofalo, who painted it in 1517.
