Gabriele Basilico was (and he always will be) one of the artists who has most marked the history of the twentieth century photography. During March-April of 1978, he was commissioned by the monthly magazine Modo to immortalize people having fun on Emilia Romagna’s dancefloors. He was so impressed by this research to the point that he decided to pursue it independently and all the shots became a study of the thriving dancehall phenomenon in Emilia Romagna, put together in the book “Dancing in Emilia”, a reportage which mixed punk and miniskirts with regimental ties and the traditional attire of liscio dancing, painting a picture which was “somewhat homely, but very much Italian.”
