Cascate del Doccione waterfalls are located in the Frignano Park, near Fellicarolo, approximately 70 km away from Modena. From the small village of Fanano you can proceed towards Taburri and finally reach this beautiful spot.

Located at an altitude of 1190 metres and with a drop of 120 metres, these are the highest waterfalls in the Modena area.

Since 2009, these waterfalls have also been accessible to all, thanks to the elimination of architectural barriers along an old trail that has now been restored. The route is now equipped with paving, protective barriers and wheelchair-accessible equipment.

The Cascata dell’Acqua Caduta waterfall is located in Monteacuto Delle Alpi on the Bologna Apennines, near the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Faggio, a small eighteenth-century church surrounded by a beautiful beech forest. The waterfall can be reached via a loop route of medium difficulty starting and returning from Monteacuto Delle Alpi, with possible stops at Mill of Squaglia, Pian dello Stellaio and Piana del Rombicciaio.

The Moraduccio Waterfall is located along the river Santerno, right on the border between Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. This is the ideal place for a picnic or even as an alternative to the beach in the summer, as the river has plenty of pools to swim in.

The waterfall can be reached through the Montanara provincial road that climbs from Imola to the Futa Pass. Approximately 6 kilometres after Castel del Rio you will find the hamlet of Moraduccio. Take the small road at the end of the village that goes down to the riverbed, from which you can admire the waterfall called Rio dei Briganti, about 30 metres high. Do not miss the nearby abandoned village of Castiglioncello.

The waterfall on the river Alferello is located near Bagno di Romagna, just at the edge of the Casentinesi Forest Park. It is also commonly known as the ‘Trout Waterfall’ due to the high presence of this fish species along the river. The 32-metre height and the geomorphological features of the area endow the waterfall with a truly monumental appearance. It can be reached by a 25-minute walk from the centre of Alfero.

The Scalandrini waterfall is located in the Lama Valley, in the heart of the Casentinesi Forest Park.

The waterfall can be reached by a hike of about 40 minutes along path no. 227, starting from Rifugio dei Fangacci. The path first leads over a small wooden bridge at the top of the waterfall, then down the rock steps (the scalandrini) to the base, from where you can enjoy a breathtaking view.

If you want to proceed and complete the loop route, get ready for a 12-km hike with a 660-metre altitude difference. Given the complexity of the route, it is suitable for trained hikers only.
